We are very excited to announce that Mercanta North America has recently moved into a new office space in central Seattle – equipped with a custom-built cupping lab of course!
We shipped our very first container of specialty coffee direct from origin to North America in 2006, after a decade of sourcing and importing some of the world’s best coffees from our base in the UK (London).
From humble beginnings, we’re delighted to have watched our North American business flourish. We have been steadily expanding our coffee portfolio in North America as our customer base has developed. And now we’re extremely excited to be opening a brand new office and lab in the heart of Seattle.
The lab is fully kitted out – complete with a Mercanta cupping table, a Synesso Hydra espresso machine and a state-of-the-art ‘Electrostatic Precipitator’ – an ingenious device (with an amazing name!) which captures and eliminates smoke, exhaust, and by-products from the roasting process, decreasing odors and the risk of fire. Important when you’re located in busy downtown Seattle!
We’ll be running a regular programme of cupping events in the new lab. This is something we have been doing in Europe for several years now, so we’re delighted to be able to offer these special events to our North American customers too.
