Maninga AMCOS PB

The AMCOS was started in 2018 to work with coffee producers in the villages of Maninga, Ikonya, Itaka, Bara and Nyimbili. Typically, there is a Central Pulping Unit (CPU) associated with AMCOS groups in Tanzania, that gathers cherries from producers to process for them. This is not the case for the Maninga AMCOS; therefore, producers will process coffee at their own farms and sell the parchment to the AMCOS.

Maninga AMCOS PB

The coffees contributed to this lot are Fully Washed, meaning that after the harvest, the cherries are first pulped via hand machine to remove the external fruit. Afterwards, the coffee is fermented in cement tanks to breakdown the remaining mucilage. Once fermentation is complete, the coffee is washed to clean away any leftover mucilage and then dispersed on wooden beds to dry until the ideal moisture content is reached.

About Tanzania

Kenya’s less well-known neighbour produces an astoundingly similar-tasting coffee in a somewhat similar landscape. Coffee is marketed by both an auction system organised by the Tanzania Coffee Board (TCB) and direct sale.

Arabica seedlings were first introduced to the country from Réunion Island (then known as Bourbon) and planted in the Bayamoyo and Mogoro regions (fairly close to Dar Es Salaam) and were later established as a successful commercial crop in 1893 on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro by German colonizers.
