Katherine Calder

About: Katherine joined Mercanta in 2010 to oversee our marketing and communications activities. Prior to joining Mercanta she worked as a television researcher and a political analyst on Latin America. Katherine first became interested in the coffee trade after visiting Monmouth’s Covent Garden shop during her first year at university, and later spent a month a volunteering on a coffee-tourism project run by a growers’ cooperative in Chiapas, Mexico (Ixhuatán). Since joining Mercanta Katherine has completed the London School of Coffee’s Advanced Cupping course and served on the Rwanda Cup of Excellence international jury in 2011. She has developed a focus on East African coffees and coordinates our sourcing in Rwanda and Tanzania. Katherine has a first class BA (Hons) in English Literature and Spanish from Oxford University and a postgraduate diploma in print journalism from London’s City University.
