Cupping Invitational - November 2009
On Friday 20th November we held our monthly cupping invitational and we welcomed friends from Denmark, Italy and around the UK. We were very happy to showcase the new crop arrivals from Brazil and some great lots from Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Indonesia, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia and Kenya.
The current Brazil crop has been affected by unseasonal rain during the harvest time causing a great challenge to dry the coffee parchment consistently and despite this issue we were overwhelmed by the quality of coffees we are receiving at the moment, the coffees are cupping very clean with great coating creamy mouthfeel and intense sweetness.
The lots from Central America are holding really well and showed good acidity and quality. We compared our single estates to our Cup of Excellence lots as quality benchmark and the results were very positive.
The highlights of the day were our farms from Antigua, Guatemala – Finca Puerta Verde and Finca Santa Clara both showing outstanding fruit quality, vibrant acidity and balance.
Our experimental Geisha lot from Costa Rica Finca La Candelilla (Tarrazú) was exceptional showing great elegance and fragrance with delicate rose petal notes.
The new Kenyan auction lots – Ndimaini and Tinganga were delicious, bursting with zesty grapefruit notes and lingering juicy mouthfeels.
Please see our full cupping report below.
We would like to thank everyone who attended and made the effort to come and visit us; it is a great privilege to have you here with us.
We look forward to seeing you in the near future.
José
